Tyler Lytle - Political Views Are Reflected in Brain Structure
Politics as a
whole has become an even more controversial topic recently than it has been in
the last few years. This article explores how individuals’ political party
choice may be impacted by parts of their brains being larger than those of the
opposing party. It suggests that democrats have a section of their brain that
is larger than the corresponding section in republicans. The same can be said
about republicans however the part of their brain that is larger is a different
section than that of democrats. Researchers went on to say that differences in
personality and information processing may also be linked to the previously
mentioned structural size differences, in turn impacting political party
affiliation.
Although there
may be a correlation there needs to be further research conducted and by others
to see if the findings are conclusive. The article focuses on those who are on
one end of the political spectrum or the other and did not have any research to
address those who are uninterested in politics or in the independent category.
Researchers also state that further research needs to be done to explore those
who do not solidly fit into those categories.
